Which bridle should I use?

Horse bridles come in many shapes. Weymouth bridle, bitless bridle, Figure-8 bridle; there are endless possibilities. At Epplejeck you'll find the bridle you need, but first you have to know which bridle suits you and your horse best. We have a large collection of bridles for sale from brands like Rambo, Passier, Anky, BR and more.
There are several types of bridles: snaffle bridles, bitless bridles, show bridles, weymouth bridles. Snaffle bridles have many differenty options regarding nosebands. Drop noseband, flash noseband, plain English noseband or a figure-8 noseband. Some bridles don't have a noseband at all. More and more bridles are designed whilst keeping the horse's anatomy in mind. These anatomic bridles are shaped to fit the horse's head perfectly and aim to avoid sensitive areas on the horse's head such as the nerve endings. These bridles are very useful for young horses, sensitive horses, or horses which can't stand pressure behind the ears. A bitless bridle is a bridle without a bit, however often there is an option to attach a bit nevertheless. A show bridle can be used with or without a bit during horse shows. Weymouth bridles are used at higher disciplines of dressage and have a stronger impact in the horse's mouth.

Rambo Micklem bridles

Rambo® Micklem bridles are unique bridles designed to avoid pressure on sensitive areas. They fit the shape of the horse's skull comfortably. Nerve endings are avoided and the anatomic design prevents bruises and irritation in sensitive areas. There is less pull behind the ears, due to the unique design where the bit is not attached directly to the headpiece. Similar bridles to Micklem are the Anky Comfort Fit bridles and the Schockemöhle Equitus bridles.

Which noseband is the right choice?

Nosebands are sometimes called cavessons. The flash noseband is the most popular noseband. This is a combination of a crank noseband with a flash strap which are connected. The noseband lies above the bit and under the cheek straps. The flash strap is position in front of the bit; the flash strap ensures a more stable position of the bit and prevents the horse from opening his mouth too far. Despite its name, the crank noseband should not be cranked too tight. There should be about two fingers of space between the band and the chin. If a noseband is cranked too tight it might hinder the horse's breathing and freedom of movement and in turn its performance. Another noseband, used primarily with jumping, is the figure-8 noseband. A figure-8 noseband consists of two straps which cross on top of the horse's nose, hence the name figure-8. The upper strap is fastened around the jaws and the lower strap is fastened in front of the bit.
A drop noseband runs in front of the bit. A drop noseband somewhat protects the horse from a restless hand; this is because the strap keeps the bit in place. The bit rings should be free from the corners of the mouth, this is noseband is thus only usable with a snaffle bit. The noseband should always be positioned on the nasal bone, never on the soft tissue of the nose.
An English cavesson is often used with Weymouth bridles. An English cavesson offers for more space in the mouth. A Weymouth bridle is used in dressage in discipline Z and higher. This bridle has double cheek straps and is used with two bits and two sets of reins. A Weymouth bridle is not suitable for every horse or pony, as some horses have a much smaller mouth than others.
