Are you looking for extra protection for your back during trail rides, riding a young horse or recreational jumps, but do you prefer to not wear a full body protector? The right size body protector
It is very important to choose the right size when buying a body protector. Proper safety and comfort is ensured by choosing the right size. A safety vest should fit tightly around the body so it won't slide during a fall. The right size body protector can be determined by measuring your body or by trying on different body protectors in one of our stores. Keep in mind that fit can differ per brand. To make sure the body protector has the right fit, the following things should be kept in mind:
- The front should end at least 25mm under the bottom rib without limiting your ability to bend forward (in case of jumps for example)
- The upper back should reach up to the extending vertebra at the beginning of the neck, this is the 7th vertebra.
- The bottom back should not hit the saddle whilst riding, this can be tested by sitting on a chair.
- A body protector should fit rather tightly so it won't slide. Additionally it should sit as close as possible to your back. You can wear a shirt or thermal wear underneath. A coat, competition jacket or vest can be worn over it.
Are body protectors allowed at competitions? A body protector is not mandatory at competitions, but certainly allowed. Both adults and kids can opt to wear a body protector in dressage, show jumping and eventing competitions alike.
